Vorbei bevor es begann...

So ist das wohl bei der Bundeswehr. An einem Tag brauchen sie dich, am nächsten ist deine Stelle gestrichen. Heute Morgen um 8 Uhr bekam ich einen Anruf vom Lagezentrum, dass diese wiederum durch den Rechnungsführer angerufen wurden, weil dieser wiederum den Auftrag hatte, meinen Flug nach Monrovia zu stornieren.
Seufz. Nun ist es wohl doch so, dass vor Ort kaum noch Leute gebraucht werden, bzw. das DRK ausreichend Ärzte hat um die Versorgung dort zu gewährleisten. Die Ebola-Fallzahlen sinken und ... voilà - so schnell ist man wieder ausgeplant.
Blöd nur, dass ich extra Urlaub bzw. Überstundenabbau beantragt hab, um diese Woche alles zu organisieren und vorzubereiten. Blöd, dass ich mich habe aus dem Dienstplan heraus nehmen lassen und einen ziemlich wichtigen Kurs abgesagt habe - alles wegen des Ebola-Einsatzes.
Nun ja, nun ist es halt so. Verzeiht die Aufregung und die vielen Worte vorher. Es soll wohl doch nicht sein. Echt traurig... :-(

I guess thats how the German military works. One day they need you, the next day your job is cancelled. This morning at 8am I received a phone call from the Org Department, because they had just been informed that my flight to Monrovia, Liberia was cancelled.
Sigh. It looks like they already have enough doctors down there, or the German Red Cross is able to send enough doctors themself to ensure the medical care. The numbers of new Ebola infections decrease .... et voilà - thats how fast you're pulled back from the job.
What's really a bummer, is, that I took a few vacation days before the trip in order to prepare and organize everything. I had myself taken off the work schedule and I declined a really important trauma training course in March, because I thought I wouldnt be in Germany by that time. - Everything for the Ebola mission. And now that.
Oh well, I guess thats how it is for now. Im sorry for all the excitement and all the words spent in advance. I guess it's just not meant to happen. Very very upset .... :-(

Es geht los...

Liebe Familie und Freunde,

ihr habt sicherlich von den Problemen gehört, die Liberia, Mali und der Senegal mit dem Ausbruch der Ebola-Erkrankung hatten. Als die Neuerkrankungen pro Tag immer weiter anstiegen, beschloss die Bundeswehr sich dem DRK anzuschließen und Soldaten nach Liberia zu schicken um dort humanitäre Hilfe zu leisten. Die Teilnahme an diesem Projekt war freiwillig, niemand musste nach Liberia.

Ich habe mich für diesen Auslandseinsatz freiwillig beworben, es ist wichtig andere Länder, denen es nicht so gut geht wie uns, zu unterstützen. Im November war ich beim Vorbereitungskurs, bei dem wir lernten dem Schutzanzug richtig an- und auszuziehen und im Schutzanzug zu arbeiten.

Am 06.02.15 fliege ich nach Liberia und komme am 09.03. wieder zurück nach Deutschland. vom 09.03. bis 30.03. muss ich eine drei-wöchige Quarantäne-Zeit einhalten, ab 01.04. arbeite ich wieder voll im Krankenhaus in Berlin mit.

Dear family and friends,

I am sure you all have heard of the problems that Liberia, Mali and Senegal have to go through since the beginning of the Ebola outbreak. As the numbers of new Ebola infections increased, the german military department of defence decided to send german soldiers to Liberia to work together with the German Red Cross in a humanitary aid mission. The participation in this project is voluntary, nobody HAS to go.

I, myself, applied voluntarily for this foreign assignment, because I think it is important to support other countries which are not blessed like us. I joined the preparation course in November 2014, we learned how to put on and take off the safety suit and how to work with and in the safety suit.

I am going to leave for Liberia on Feb 6th and will return to Berlin on March 9th. From March 9th to 30th I will be placed into quarantine (3 weeks, just for safety reasons). April 1st I am going to resume my work in the military hospital in Berlin.
